2014 NFL Mock Draft: 7-22-13

johnny-manziel-2014-nfl-mock-draft

It?s never too early. 2014 NFL mock draft time. Some team needs were taken into account this time. Sometimes they were not. I did my best. The 2014 NFL mock draft order is completely randomized, as it will change numerous times between now and February. Some of the 2014 NFL mock draft player descriptions will be rounded out and filled in later.

Guess who was omitted from this mock draft? Yes, we had to remove you know who from the top spot in the mock draft.

johnny-manziel-heisman-blunt

1. Jacksonville Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

JAX can?t ?keep throwing good money after bad? as they say in corporate America. But if it was Gabbert throwing the money, it would almost always miss its mark.

2. Oakland, Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

Did you SEE THE HIT on the Michigan Wolverines in the bowl game? Clowney came to SC as the #1 rated recruit in the nation. His college football career has not disappointed. He began his 2013 Heisman campaign, and case to be the 2014 NFL mock Draft #1 pick with that CRUSHING of the Michigan ball-carrier.

Go here for more on Clowney

3. Detroit Lions, Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

It?s a safe bet to assume that we?ll see Detroit back in the top 5 of the 2014 NFL Mock Draft. They?re regular cellar dwellers and often have high picks on draft night. Matthews comes from the blue blood of NFL families. Bruce Matthews, Clay Matthews, Casey Matthews etc. Dave Matthews?.oh wait, not that last one.

san-jose-state

4. Browns, David Fales, QB, San Jose State

I know you?re asking me- who??? But that?s what happens on draft night, quarterbacks are overrated and over-drafted every year. Also, we?re probably safe to say the Brownies will be back in the top ten of the 2014 NFL mock draft. And I?m not sold on the Browns 67-year-old quarterback. Yes, I?m kidding, I know Brandon Weeden?s real age.

san-jose-state

5. New York Jets, Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

Ah the frat house/train wreck/reality show of the NFL. There are some people who think the Jets could be contenders next year. Yes, and there also people who think Kate Upton is fat.

The Jets need to better protect Mark Sanchez, ex-boyfriend of Kate Upton, or whatever excuse for a QB they?ll offer us in the fall. That?s enough New York Jets talk for now, ESPN has already made you sick of them. And what?s a 2014 NFL mock draft without a few more Alabama players?

6. Buffalo, Marqise Lee, WR, USC

There are to passing offense what Amanda Bynes is to self-control and discipline. And it?s a safe bet to assume that we?ll see Buffalo back in the top 10 of the 2014 NFL Mock Draft. This dude put up so-called ?video game numbers? playing Pac-12 college football last fall. His production might drop off this year with the QB situation in Troy, but NFL scouts will factor that in accordingly.

7. Arizona, Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State

Arizona hasn?t been very good at rushing the passer lately now have they? Speaking of Florida State, did you see what the Florida State cheerleaders, dance team an co-eds did to try and recruit #1 overall prospect Andrew Wiggins? Good stuff.

8. Philadelphia, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon

So much for the ?dream team.? Building a fantasy football team just doesn?t work in the real world. The Eagles need to blow things up, The genius offensive mind of Chip Kelly will take someone who can shut down the opponent?s pass.? this is someone Chip Kelly is obviously familiar with

Go here to hear Chip Kelly say ?it?s cool that I have a website named after myself?

9. St. Louis Rams Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan Wolverines

The Big Ten has been great at producing offensive linemen prospects for he NFL lately. The Wisconsin Badgers are a factory, but there?s also been a bunch in the few year coming out from the Illinois Fighting Illini, Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.

Ever wonder what Big Ten school has produced the most 1st round picks these past five years? The answer will surprise you.

Given the ?fat boy draft? of 2013, maybe I should put Lewan #1 in my 2014 NFL mock draft. No seriously, this past draft was in fact exceedingly boring, but the next draft will be much more exciting.

Go here for more on Taylor Lewan

10. Tampa Bay, Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson

I don?t care what you say I?m still not sold on Josh Freeman. And ESPN officially jumped-the-shark, and SportsCenter became a permanent no-fly-zone for me when they had Josh Freeman do ?analysis? and ?recap? of highlights from his own game. No bias there. None whatsoever. Ugh. Walter Cronkite, ESPN is not.

Remember, who gets taken here, the Buccos are the favorite NFL team of Kate Upton; so the world?s most attractive woman will be watching you.

johnny-manziel-a&m-2014-nfl-mock-draft

11. San Diego, Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

Here we go, the first WOW! pick in the 2014 NFL mock draft. Manziel will be THE MOST scrutinized prospect in this draft. You can tell from his tweets about life in College Station, TX that he?s as good as gone after this season. Manziel doesn?t seem to be a very good liar. He doesn?t seem to be all that intelligent. And some of the excuses Johnny Manziel feeds us plainly insult our own intelligence. Either he?s just a horrible decision maker, or thinks he doesn?t have to be accountable. Or both.

No NFL team is going to invest tens of millions into a franchise quarterback who exhibits those characteristics. So he?s going to have to clean up his act a whole lot to even end up going this high. I predict he will. So why San Diego? Well, 1.) they drafted Manti Te?o so they have proven that they
have no problem inviting the media circus. 2.) Phillip Rivers isn?t exactly Mr. Congeniality, and they put up with him 3.) he?s getting on in years, this is as good a year as any to draft his replacement.

johnny-manziel-a&M

12. St. Louis, Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

With Danny Amendola now gone. It?s likely the Rams will draft a WR either here or with the #16 pick. Pretty much every 2014 NFL mock draft will see the Rams taking a wideout early. The Rams also need to find a way to keep Sam Bradford upright.

lauren-tannehill

13. Miami, David Yankey, OT, Stanford

With the departure of Jake Long, I think we know what position Miami is drafting for. In almost every 2014 NFL mock draft you?ll see the Dolphins going OL. The Dolphins are to blocking what Russell Crowe is to singing.

The Dolphins need better protection for Ryan Tannehill,? and hey, he?s got a hot wife, who broke the internet last NFL Draft, and happens to be doing some promotional work now.?

lauren_tannehill

14. Kansas City, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington

Sefarian-Jenkins is one of the top overall prospects in the 2014 NFL mock draft, and could help fill two Chiefs needs: blocking and pass-catching; they could use some help in both areas.

15. Tennessee, Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia

The Georgia offense will be led by QB Aaron Murray, who rates near the top of the 2014 NFL Draft class. What holds him back is his height; the same problem AJ McCarron and Johnny Manziel have..

Go here for more on Aaron Murray

16. Carolina, Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA

This guy seems to be high on almost everyone?s 2014 NFL mock draft boards.

alabama-cheerleaders-2014-nfl-mock-draft

17. Pittsburgh, C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama

It seems like the Steelers draft a linebacker early in the draft every year doesn?t it?

saints cheerleaders

18. New Orleans,? Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

The Saints, statistically speaking, had the worst defense in NFL history last year. That?s not hyperbole. It?s true. Gotta go that side of the ball in round one.

Often times, ?bulletin board? material comes back to bite the behind of the person who says it. October 2011 was not one of those times as then Ohio State redshirt freshman Bradley Roby described Illini senior wideout A.J. Jenkins as ?not that special.?

Roby, a freshman who was an afterthought recruit (he?s from the same high school as former Buckeyes star DL Cameron Heyward, and lacked a ton of offers from major schools) talked smack about Jenkins, the nation?s leader in receiving yards and a Biletnikoff Award front-runner at the time. Bradley Roby backed it up though as she shut down Jenkins, and the Buckeyes handled the Illini. Jenkins went on to be a first draft pick by the 49ers. Roby will join him in the NFL, and possibly have another chance to talk trash to Jenkins.

19. Dallas, Kyle Fuller, Jonathan Brown, LB, Illini

Ever wonder what Big Ten school has produced the most 1st round picks these past five years? The answer will surprise you.

Yes, it?s the Illini, my alma mater. Every April sees a ?March? of Illini to the NFL. So is this a ?homer pick? in my mock draft?? Brown probably would have declared this year and been a round 2-3 prospect had he stayed healthy.

I predict he?ll heal and he?ll dominate the Big Ten in the fall. There are some character concerns though. He did get suspended for kneeing a Northwestern OL in the groin in the middle of a game. This isn?t enough to keep Jonathan Brown out of the first round. GO HERE to go inside the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders locker room.

?20. New England Patriots, Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

You?ll see near the top in almost every 2014 NFL mock draft. And obviously, we know the Patriots have major issues in the secondary. Their pass defense is atrocious.

21. NY Giants, Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida

Lynch left ND to be closer to his family and his girlfriend. The Cape Coral, FL native went home.

Lynch was a top rated, blue-chip recruit who committed to Notre Dame, de-committed in the wake of the Declan Sullivan tragedy, and then committed again to the Irish. He also dominated last year?s spring game..

22. Chicago Bears, James Hurst, OT, North Carolina

Other Bears experts say the pick HAS to be an OT or LB. They?re both right. I?m not going to say that OL or MLB isn?t a pressing need.? I?m just use to picking OL here for the Bears out of habit; and every year it makes sense. By the way , if you don?t like Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, you will now after reading THIS STORY because it makes Jay Cutler a million times more likable.

jay-cutler-2013-nfl-mock-draft

23. Green Bay Packers, Louis Nix, NT, Notre Dame

The 2014 NFL mock draft is interesting for the Pack as you don?t know which way they?re going to go, it really should be defense. I could see the Pack going shopping for some ?Irish Chocolate? in the 2014 NFL mock draft.

And Nix is an awesome soundbite to boot.

Go here for more on Louis Nix

24. Cincinnati Bengals, Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida

Loucheiz Purifoy reminds me of this Key & Peele sketch.

katherine-webb-miss-alabama

25. Vikings , AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama

Joe Webb is a joke of a back-up, and Christian Ponder is among the bottom tier of the NFL starting QBs. Sorry Samantha Steele, your husband is not good as his job. People question AJ McCarron because of his height. However, I disagree, he can find passing lanes just fine. He?s already proven he doesn?t need to be any taller to see over the line. Why don?t you ask Russell Wilson if he?s having any issues despite being 5?9?

Go here for more on McCarron. Oh, and we have excuses now to post pictures of Katherine Webb.

crimson-tide

26. Indianapolis Colts, Chaz Green, OT, Florida

The Colts could use more added protection for their franchise QB Andrew Luck This is one name you?ll see rising in every 2014 NFL mock draft.

venric-mark-2014-nfl-mock-draft

27. Atlanta, Venric Mark, RB, Northwestern

You?re like, who? What? Really? No seriously, look at his numbers, they?re insanely good. And he?s only going to get better this year. Mark is the next Dave Meggett or Warrick Dunn. He?ll be more than a low-center-of-gravity third down back. He?ll be a guy who can take a bulk of the carries, and no one questions his second-level speed burst potential.

For more on Venric Mark

28. Houston, Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame

You saw the way the Notre Dame D dominated last fall (well, up until the national title game when the Crimson Tide made the Irish defense their prison cell mate) and Tuitt was a big part of why the Irish defenders were so stellar during the regular season.

29. San Francisco,? Adrian Hubbard, DE/OLB, Alabama

And what?s a 2014 NFL mock draft without a few more Alabama players? Go here for the Alabama cheerleader photo gallery

bama-cheerleaders

30. Baltimore,? Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB, BYU

It will be very interesting to see where Van Noy fits in at the next level; you?ll see him in almost every 2014 NFL mock draft. The question is scheme and how he fits, is he a true 3-4 prospect? What about in a 4-3 defense?

31. Seattle, Silas Redd RB, USC

My favorite part of Big Ten media day last summer was when I asked Penn State coach Bill O?Brien for further information about the likely transfer of Silas Redd from Penn State to USC. O?Brien was at the podium and just said ?no.?

That?s it. ?No.?

That?s all he said. This exchange was just awesomesauce. And it even got described in the Chicago Tribune.

Go here for more on Silas Redd

32. Denver, Logan Thomas QB, Virginia Tech

You need to figure out Peyton Manning?s heir apparent some time.

Our 2014 NFL mock draft is over. Hey thanks for coming!
